Susan Boyle
Seeing as I cannot even sit through one of her songs, I’m completely baffled as to how Susan Boyle’s new album is number one in the states and in Britain. This has not happened since the Beatles 40 years ago. Which I can’t help but feel is a big insult to the Beatles.

Today I want
A chocolate cake. The good kind that is rich and moist, not the dry kind. I want three pieces. Maybe four. and lots of milk. And I want to blow off the start of this week and head home early. And I want to fall asleep on the big comfy couch watching a movie and have my mom put a blanket over me and feel the warmth from the fire coax me into a deep slumber. And i want to look outside and see it...

this is dinner
This is what I made for dinner last night: Pan fried potato cheddar Pierogies with homemade sauerkraut and fried onions. I topped it with some hot sauce. yuh.um. Glass of spumante. yuh.um. smoothie made with frozen strawberries (picked this summer), frozen cranberries (ya, that’s how I roll, threw ‘em in whole, no sugar added), and lots-of-pulp orange juice, blended to the...

mistah baldacci
Let’s all just give John Baldacci a little shout out for his awesome work as the Governor of Maine for almost 8 years. He “signed nine bills [advancing toxic chemical reform], including a first-in-the-nation law to regulate toxic chemicals in products at the state level, the Kid-Safe Products Act”, as well as invested in wind energy, made gay marriage legal (before out of...

Is Maine where it's at for once?
It seems so strange to me that fashion is mixing this classic meets subtly trendy meets Maine style right now

happy homemade holidays
During the past two years I attended the Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh. It’s a “craft fair” that happens during the holidays (although it looks like it has been switched to the Springtime). It’s not a traditional craft fair that you might think of your old high school hosting though. It’s artisan, hip, modern things like homemade screen printed t-shirts, leather...

Someone needs to cut the power on Kanye West’s microphone. Has this guy ever said anything meaningful?

and then there was darkness
Thanks to daylight savings it was light out for about an hour and a half today. Then when I was walking over to the laundry mat tonight this weird precipitation started falling. It was crunchy under my feet but it was not slippery when I slid my shoe around and it was over 40 degrees outside. Kind of felt like the end of the world.

This time of year I’m indecisive, wanting to be outside in the sultry smell of autumn, and wanting to stay tucked inside warm and cozy.

November 3rd
Today I was greeted by the first frost on my car. Despite the chilly skirt, leggings, and flats without socks combo I was sporting, I enjoyed the experience. This will not be the story in January, but this morning the blinding sun and crisp air was blissful. Bedford street lawns were covered in yellowy-orange leaves soaking up the sunshine. I’m enjoying it before everything changes.

cross your fingers day
Today I voted for equal rights and preserving the environment. I learned this morning in the Portland Press Herald that “at $70,000 a year, Maine’s governor is the lowest-paid in the nation.” That really says a lot.
