ask and ye shall receive
I feel pretty strongly about the fact that if you spend time thinking about what you want the universe will make it happen. I didn’t always think this. There were many days in middle school and high school when my mom would spout that kind of mumbo jumbo and I would roll my eyes all the way to China. But then one day a few years back I made a list. I was dating a guy who I felt like was kind...

this is what creative feels like
When I write a new song and play it through a few times until I get it straight, and I connect with it and feel good about the lyrics, the melody, and the guitar line, my heart beats faster.

up up and away
I would like to go somewhere remote and whimsical. To a place where I see something familiar in everything around me, but is so completely foreign. I would like to take a break from my own language and only speak when it is absolutely necessary, and get lost in my thoughts. I want to rent a very small little space and cook with fresh food every night, and then sit out on a balcony many stories up...

I want to live a simple life
The Weepies are one of my favorite bands. Their music is the audible version of myself. One of my favorite songs by them is Simple Life, not surprisingly.
Simple Life by The Weepies
Can I get up in the morning Put the kettle on Make us some coffee, say hey to the sun Is it enough to write a song and sing it to the birds? They’d hear just the tune Not understand my love for words But you...

Mostly I hate Whole Foods
I always cringe a little when I walk into a whole foods, which is about twice a year. First of all it’s about 7 degrees in there and unless you have stuck your alpine feathered parka in your trendy reusable bag that has non-exotic locations like “London” and “Venice” stamped on it, you’re about to see your breath in front of you like it was February. Also,...

problem solved
There is no better way to stick it to the man then being sustainable. It hurts big business, unnecessary government subsidies, and short-sighted policy. It benefits everyone by improving the environment, the health of our people, and the long-term vitality of our country.
You can accomplish all of this by doing something as simple as walking to work.

an old free write
I’ve been wanting to tap into my roots a little and write a love story about a girl coming home to Maine (they say write what you know, so this story takes place on a rural dirt road). This was the first thing I wrote for it (after the jump).

I love this kind of rain
A heavy summer rain. I want to be pulled out into it and kissed like it matters, because a part of me remembers what that feels like, and a part of me doesn’t.

I’VE NEVER FELT SO GOOD.
I needed that after feeling kind of crummy when I did 15. This week at 15.5 I felt great. Sometimes you gotta tip your hat to whatever spiritual beliefs you adhere to and give thanks for this life and this incredible human body, which is truly a well-designed machine.
Somehow I managed to actively participate in a 2 hr policy research...
